MCR Treatment for Chemical Plant Cooling Blowdown
An integrated MCR softening and membrane-treatment route for high-hardness circulating cooling blowdown at a chemical enterprise.
A compact softening route for a constrained industrial site
The supplied project document describes cooling blowdown with high hardness and silica, together with elevated ammonia nitrogen and COD. The site required a high system recovery while limiting footprint, so the project adopted an integrated MCR-based pretreatment route before reverse osmosis.
Process route
- Two-stage chemical reaction and conditioning
- MCR membrane chemical reactor for solid-liquid separation
- Cation bed for residual hardness removal
- Feed RO followed by concentrate RO
- Concentrate directed to downstream salt separation or evaporation
Results reported in the supplied technical file
Hardness
The document reports reduction from approximately 1,500 mg/L as CaCO3 to below 30 mg/L.
Silica
The document reports reduction from approximately 65 mg/L to below 10 mg/L.
System recovery
The complete system is reported to achieve more than 90% water recovery.
Figures on this page are reproduced from the customer-supplied project document. Final performance for a new project depends on its verified design basis and operating conditions.
