Ceramic membranes can also be considered when the process requires stronger cleaning tolerance or better resistance to challenging water conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Typical applications include industrial wastewater reuse, surface water pretreatment, cooling tower blowdown treatment, RO concentrate pretreatment, seawater pretreatment and certain ZLD pretreatment systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One common situation is when a plant wants to reuse wastewater but the existing pretreatment system cannot provide stable RO feed water. If turbidity or SDI is unstable, downstream RO systems may require frequent cleaning. Ceramic membrane filtration may help improve pretreatment reliability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another situation is when organic UF membranes are frequently damaged or blocked. In some industrial wastewater applications, suspended solids, oil, chemicals or water quality fluctuation may shorten the service life of conventional membranes. Ceramic membranes may provide better tolerance, depending on the specific water conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, ceramic membranes should not be selected only because they sound stronger. They may have higher initial cost, and system design still needs careful evaluation. Chemical pretreatment, backwash strategy, cleaning method and operating flux must be designed properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before choosing ceramic membrane filtration, industrial plants should prepare water quality data and define the treatment objective.
